Residential Landscape Project at Maitland Crescent, Sri Lanka
To reimagine an existing residence into a serene, minimal, and highly functional urban retreat that emphasizes privacy, elegance, practicality, and structural greenery for modern family living in a peaceful neighborhood.
Entry Landscape
The arrival sequence sets the tone for the entire property by prioritizing cleanliness and elegance. The design focused on refining the existing entrance by utilizing the existing solid rendered boundary wall and the sleek, modern horizontal-slatted metal gate. The driveway features durable interlock paver blocks that lead smoothly into the property. Beneath the existing tree canopy, a soft, low ground layer was introduced to enhance the natural ambiance.
Front Yard
The Front Yard establishes the home's contemporary aesthetic and introduces a joyful feature for the family. The main area utilizes a modern checkboard pattern, cleanly combining lawn and concrete squares for a structured, contemporary look. Functionally, a wooden swing is integrated as a joyful play feature for the client’s child. A metal mesh installed atop the boundary wall is covered with Cat Claw Vine to provide lush, natural privacy.
Central Garden
Serving as the peaceful heart of the property, the Central Garden was simplified to maximize usable space and tranquility. The design utilizes a spacious lawn paired with a Japanese Zen–inspired arrangement. A winding, curved paved path leads through the space, with large natural boulders and low groundcover planting. Privacy is ensured by an extended high dark green hedge/mesh screen.
Backyard Garden Area
This functional zone is dedicated to home gardening and maximizing productivity within a compact urban footprint. Ground-level cultivation beds maximize yield while a narrow paved corridor provides clear access. The path is flanked by lush, tiered planting beds for convenient daily use.
Mini Zen Garden (TV Lounge Frontage)
A small Zen-inspired space immediately in front of the TV lounge featuring white sand paving, a sculpted Japanese-style pine, a single upright boulder, and low, fine-textured groundcovers—creating a calm, secondary entrance.
BYD Parking Area (Secondary Entrance)
The existing entrance is used as a dedicated parking zone for the family’s BYD vehicle. Exterior paving matches the main entrance interlock while the interior parking is surfaced with soft white sand, enclosed by the dark stone-clad wall for privacy.
Entry Landscape Corridor
A vital pathway connecting primary and secondary entrances, paved with wooden sleeper elements integrated with gravel and groundcover. A high stone-clad retaining wall is softened by trailing vines and red-flowering plants—delivering warmth and durable, pet-friendly materials.
Roof Terrace Garden 01 (Above Car Porch)
A fully green shrub garden that visually softens the residence's massing and provides an attractive green layer visible from interior spaces.
Roof Terrace Garden 02 (Upper Level)
An upper-level terrace designed for flowering and fruit-bearing plants with a white-paved central access area framed by linear planter beds for ornamental and edible plants.
